The Self-Improvement Journey

When your life is over this is what you will see…

Picture this.

You’ve just passed over to the spiritual realm.

You can just about open your eyes because the bright white light is so blinding.

Your eyes adjust and you see 7 people standing over you.

You recognize these people.

Because they are you…

They are you in different forms of your highest possible version.

Is there an athlete standing there?

A musician?

A business owner?

A Guru?

Who do you see?

Who could you have become?

In order to TRANSFORM yourself into your highest version…

You have to decide what that looks like for you.

You have to first put your stake in the ground.

And then SPRINT towards it.

You have to use your Conscious Mind to focus on what you want.

And engage in activities that move you toward that reality.

You might not care about 6-pack abs.

You might not want to master your mind…

You just need to DECIDE what you want your life to look like and then move towards it every day.

So…

What does your greatest version look like?

Are you already on the path?

Have you ever asked yourself what your highest potential is?

What is it that you are not doing?

And why are you not doing it?

The Comfort Zone

“The comfort zone is where dreams go to die”.

The system we are a part of makes it very easy to stay in The Comfort Zone.

It’s instantly gratifying.

It’s readily available.

And ultra-stimulating.

With your 9-5 stealing most of your valuable time and energy…

It’s easy to get into a rhythm of:

  • Work
  • Eat
  • Entertainment
  • Sleep
  • Repeat
  • WEEKEND

You are rewarded for sacrificing the most valuable hours of your day with funny money.

That funny money allows you to exist and buy some dopamine.

With the little time you have left outside of your obligations…

You pursue what makes you feel good.

You spend time with your family.

You exercise.

You eat.

You drink.

You smoke.

You scroll.

You push your dopamine buttons.

You are in a cycle of doing things you don’t want to do, so you can exist and also do the things you do want to do (with the little free time and energy you have left).

It’s a genius system designed to benefit those who created the system.

It’s designed to keep you running on the hamster wheel of life until you can kick your feet up when you’re 67…

When your health, energy, and drive have all been sucked out of you.

It’s evil genius.

You have to CHOOSE to take your power back and make the most of the time you have available.

This is where self-improvement comes in.

The Self-Improvement Journey

What to expect:

  • Satisfaction
  • Self-respect
  • Immense joy
  • Improved health
  • Self-actualisation
  • Emotional control
  • Continual learning
  • Increased confidence
  • Improved relationships
  • Increased self-awareness

Why most people avoid the journey:

  • Sacrifice
  • Suffering
  • Loneliness
  • Self-doubt
  • Feeling lost
  • Uncertainty
  • Fear of failure
  • Instant gratification

Awareness is the precursor to change.

You must first become aware of the fact that you have some work to do before you can direct your energy toward a different way of Being.

And you have to realise that you can TRANSFORM yourself into something more than you are right now.

You can let yourself hit rock bottom…

And be FORCED into making a change.

Or you can CHOOSE to embark on the path of self-improvement right now.

The path of self-improvement is a never-ending uphill climb.

An uphill climb with frequent resting points, where you can stop and look at the view…

“Look at how far I’ve come”

“I’m so proud of myself”

You will change directions.

You will learn and discover A LOT about yourself.

You will think about quitting.

You will question everything.

You will feel lonely.

Your mental state will fluctuate.

And there is one thing that is an absolute certainty…

You will GROW.

You will grow into a person that you can be proud of.

A person who others look to for guidance.

You will become a force for good.

A vibration raiser.

Because…

“The greatest gift you have to give is that of your own self-transformation” – Lao Tzu.

Self-Improvement 101

If you think it’s complicated…

If you don’t know where to start…

This is for you.

Start by looking at how you operate on a day-to-day basis.

Are you present?

Are you moving your body?

Are you stimulating your mind?

Are you eating good food?

How do you feel?

Start asking yourself questions and you will get the answers…

Exercise

  1. Move your body in a way that improves your strength, mobility, and endurance
  2. Find something that you enjoy and brings you into the present moment
  3. If you can only fit in 10 minutes, or 10 minutes is all you are capable of… Do 10 minutes (build up in increments)

Breathing

  1. Nose breathing is way better than mouth breathing
  2. Long, deep breaths are way better than short, shallow breaths
  3. Incorporate a meditation or breathwork practice into your daily routine (it will change your life)

Nutrition

  1. Make sure that you are eating mostly real, whole foods (follow the 80/20 rule)
  2. Implement intermittent fasting into your life (and learn about extended periods of fasting too)
  3. Think nutrition value first, mouth pleasure second

Hydration

  1. Make sure that your main beverage of choice is water (use a glass or metal water bottle)
  2. Andrew Huberman suggests 8oz/237ml every hour for the first 10 hours of the day
  3. Add a pinch of sea salt into your water bottle

Sleep

  1. The goal of sleep is to wake up rested and recovered
  2. Aim to go to sleep and wake up at roughly the same time every day
  3. Most people achieve optimum rest and recovery through 6-8 hours of sleep (experiment and see what works best for you)

Sunlight

  1. Getting sunlight in your eyes and on your skin is proven to be one of the best things you can do for your health
  2. Aim to be outdoors in sunlight for a minimum of 20 minutes every day (even when it’s cloudy)
  3. Getting sunlight in your eyes first thing in the morning is great for your circadian rhythm

Your Mind – Everything comes from your Mind (Conscious & Subconscious)

  1. Learn to feel, process, and release your emotions (emotion is energy in motion)
  2. Become aware of how you talk to yourself and practice positive self-talk (affirmations are a great option)
  3. Meditation will allow you to become familiar with yourself (step away from the distractions, be still, and breathe)

You are both the stone and the sculptor.

It is up to you to sculpt yourself into your highest possible version.

Because if you don’t…

The time will come where you look back and reflect on your life.

You will look back and WISH you squeezed everything you possibly could out of your potential.

You will WISH you hiked that mountain.

You will WISH you decided to move abroad.

You will WISH you made that career change.

You will WISH you gave it absolutely everything.

Stop.

Take a second.

And honestly ask yourself if you are moving toward your highest potential.

If you’re not…

It’s time to make the necessary changes.

NOW.

With energy,

DH
